Summary In Panama's rain forest, Alan Alda joins the Scientific American frontiers crew at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, on Borro Colorado Island. He learns about sonar communications of bats; explores new farming techniques that use the forest, rather than slash-and-burn techniques; investigates communication skills of bees; and learns how the isthmus of Panama was formed. The ever-daring Alda also eats soup made from a rat's relative.
