Summary Growing up in poverty, young Leon Kantor dreams of being a famous violinist. His only supporter is his mother, who prays every night for her sonâ‚‚s success. Years later, the adult Leon captivates audiences all over the world. When rumblings of war begin in Europe, Leon feels the need to enlist, and tragically, returns home from battle with a paralyzed arm, destroying his ability to play the violin, and a deep depression sets in.
