Summary |
Gabriel von Eisenstein is about to begin a prison sentence for a small indiscretion. Alfred, an opera singer, is serenading Eisenstein's wife Rosalinde outside the Eisenstein house. Adele the maid has just received a letter from her sister, Ida, inviting her to Price Orlofsky's ball. Dr. Falke, preparing a surprise at the ball, convinces Eisenstein to come with him that night and delay his departure for jail until morning. Everyone departs for the ball in disguise...not before Alfred is mistaken for Eisenstein and dragged off to prison! The comic confusion of infidelity and "mistaken" identity is topped off by Dr. Falke's surprise, a little comedy he arranged called "The Bat's Revenge". |
